A Homemade Christmas

by Jennifer Sikora on December 9, 2010 · 18 comments

I finally finished my mother in law’s quilt. It has taken me two looong years, but I finally did it. A friend gave me a package of pre-cut squares for a block quilt (which is all I can do at the moment). When she gave it to me, I already knew who it would be for. My wonderful mother in law! So this quilt cost me nothing money wise, but will be a gift from the heart for her for Christmas this year.

For this being my first quilt, I am quite proud of it. All the squares lined up, the edges turned out beautiful–everything about it I love!

That’s not to say I did not have my bumps in the road. A couple of times, I sewed things the wrong way and had to undo them and start over. I sewed the batting on the outside for example, which frustrated me to NO end!

Here is a closer look at the squares.

So what have you made lately?

That is awesome! I think I may just start getting some things together and attempt to make quilts for my three children and maybe even for my mom for next year’s gifts. I’ve always wanted to learn how to quilt and I think that will be my “goal” for the new year.

That turned out very nice. I get frustrated easily when I sew.

Way to go! I hate when I have to undo things, so I can relate to your frustration. The quilt turned out beautiful and I’m sure your mother in law will love it!

You did a really beautiful job! I think it looks AMAZING! : ) My Grandma was part of a quilting bee and we have several quilts from when she was a part of that. They are very special to me. I miss her every day.
