Ever since I went to New York a few weeks back, I have been pondering this question. I watched and listened in awe as many women who are all bloggers shared their different takes on what they did on their sites and how they got where they are today.
So I started asking myself, What is it that you want for your own blog?
I thought I wanted to do reviews.
I thought I wanted to just do giveaways and draw in readers.
However, the more I write on my blog and I read what others post, I have decided on the answer for what I want for my blog.
I want to be authentic.
I don’t want to be like anyone else when it comes to blogging.
Good grammar does not make you a great blogger.
Posting about the latest and greatest hot trending topic does not make you a great blogger.
Having tons of followers does not make you a great blogger.
What makes you a great blogger is just being yourself and being REAL.
Do you have problems comparing yourself to other bloggers? How do you handle your own competitiveness to be like the rest?

Hi! I am Jen--a wife to the most amazing man ever and a homeschool mom to one teenager. I just graduated my oldest.
I have been blogging since 2007. I love to watch movies, spend time in the kitchen, crochet, dance, drink coffee, and lay on the beach. Between recipes, reviews, and hilarious life story moments you'll find many helpful posts on this blog. Welcome, pull up a chair and stay for a while!

I love that you said you want to be authentic. That is really one of the things people appreciate about you, I think, because you are real.
I am not blogging much at all anymore and I feel bad about that! So I don’t really compare myself to others because I don’t feel I’m in a place to do so. How can I complain about my blog when I’m not putting much effort into it? (I do hope to be picking up soon though.)
But I do think that people really DO appreciate the honesty and transparency of others on their blogs, I know I do. You certainly don’t want to read a blog of someone who says they have it altogether because you know they don’t.
I do what I can and enjoy when comes to food blogging…
Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing this great post.
I love your post !! I have asked myself this question many a times …. And I must say in order to sustain something for a long term one needs to love what they do. And if you love something it will be honest and credible. I must confess I used to chase followers and wonder how the big bloggers have so many followers …… Right now I don’t have a huge number under my list of followers but I just love what I do …. The cooking the photography writing silly stories to shareand going and knocking at other blogs to c what is going on there…. That’s what I enjoy doing !! There are days when I look at a beautiful pix on a blog and do wonder how they can be so creative and that helps me stretch …..
Thxs for the lovely post ….make me think if I have found a voice ?
Those are all good questions! The longer I blog, the less competitive I get. I used to compare myself a lot to other bloggers out there, but I don’t as much anymore. When blogging isn’t fun any more, that’s when I know I’m doing something wrong!
