Today’s writing prompt: Beautiful

For the longest time, the word beautiful meant nothing to me. When I looked in the mirror, all I could see was adulterer, sinner, drunk, whore — those were the names that I was called most of my life by the ones who love me and called me friend. I couldn’t hold my head up anymore because of the burdens that weighed me down. Beautiful was something that I was not.

It took years after getting saved to come face to face with my worst problem. I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t love myself. Once that head and heart change connected, I began to see myself as God sees me — beautiful and loved.

Joyce Meyer

If you are at a place today where you are struggling with loving yourself, can I just say — get before God and let Him show you what your true beauty is.

Beautiful.

  • Jenn- oh my sweet lady- you are beautiful in so many ways…. honest and true God is using you THIS day to encourage others to believe they too are beautiful, loved and redeemed.

Thank you for sharing…. my fav part of your post is “Beauty is not in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is something that God gives you when your heart and your mind line up with each other. If you are at a place today where you are struggling with loving yourself, can I just say — get before God and let Him show you what your true beauty is.”

Thank you Nancy. I am working on allowing God to use my gifts to help others. If something I have been through will bring beauty to or hope to someone else, I have to share it :)

  • Cynthia says:

Whoa… heavy stuff here. I certainly didn’t expect it, not with that cutie-pie header you’ve got up there. Nope.

I’m reeling from the honesty here. Good for you. Wow. He does that for us, though, doesn’t He? He makes us beautiful. He sees our beauty. Even when we don’t. Especially when we don’t.

I hopped over here from Five Minute Friday, and I’m so glad I did. My entry is: http://wp.me/pBKyJ-pI

I try to be open and honest here about what God lays on my heart. Yes — my header is adorable. I had a friend make it for me. My coffee, my computer and my dog are my life :) with Jesus being #1!

Hi Dolly! So glad you stopped by as well. I am trying SO hard each day to really focus on God’s love for me and how He sees me :)

  • Mel says:

It’s hard when the world paints such an inaccurate picture of true beauty. I’m still in that place where I have to remind myself each day that He sees me as beautiful and treasured…what a gift. :) Beautiful words and honesty here…thank you for sharing!

    • Jennifer Sikora says:

Oh Mel — you and me both! I still have to fight those words and put them in their place each morning when I wake up. I look myself straight in the mirror and say “I am beautiful because I am God’s”.

  • Barbie says:

Oh yes, I know these lies. For so many years I’ve struggled. Haven’t quite gotten free yet, but I’m getting there. God is the only one who can undue so many years of damage and help me to realize my true beauty! Thanks for stopping by the blog.

I never went through the same emotions you did, but I spent years comparing myself to my sister who I always thought was more beautiful than I was. It took a lot of growing up to realize that I held just as much beauty as she did, and both of us are precious in the sight of the Lord.

That is so true Tammy. I grew up with a niece whom I compared myself too a lot because she was so much prettier than me. Now I realize, I just have a different beauty — but we are both loved the same :)
