My cell phone bill is outrageous. I got my bill in the mail the other day and I almost spit my coffee out when I saw the total on the bill. I said to myself, “Is that number right? Surely there is something wrong!” I called my carrier and found out that this price was indeed right. After hanging up the phone, I yelled at my daughter to grab her coat. We were going to take a trip to the mall and visit Best Buy to see if they had any good deals so we could save on our mobile phone bill.
As soon as I walked into Best Buy it was very overwhelming because the store was PACKED with shoppers, so I headed down to the Best Buy Specialty Store where I knew I could get one on one attention with a cell phone specialist.
I love shopping here because they are more knowledgeable about the plans, and I can focus on the one thing I came to talk about — rate plans!
As soon as I walked in I found a Best Buy Specialty Store salesperson and asked them if they had any great deals on mobile phone plans. She asked if I had any students living at home and I said yes, so she began to tell me about the Sprint student cell phone plan — My Way Promotion.
How the plan works is this — you buy the phone flat out –(there are no rebates and free phones to choose from because it doesn’t require the usual two-year agreement), however, you end up getting a year of talk, text and data for free, so I think it’s totally worth it.
This holiday season, any eligible student can get 12 months of free talk, text and data when they buy a phone at Best Buy and get an Unlimited, My Way plan– only at Best Buy! The plan offers unlimited talking and texting and 1GB of data per month for smartphones and unlimited calls and texts for feature phones. You only have til January 4th so you need to hurry now to grab this amazing deal!
There is a onetime $36 activation fee and of course you have to pay for any monthly taxes and surcharges. If your child cannot deal with only having 1GB per month of data, you can choose unlimited data for $10 per month.
While there I asked what happens one the student graduates and is no longer a student or college student, and the specialist said that the plan would then just be transferred over to a regular rate plan.
I decided to browse the store a little bit and think about our options to see if we really could choose this plan. We looked at all the phone options to see if there was one that we found intriguing.
The one my daughter found interesting was the Samsung Galaxy 4S Mini. Retail price is $599 but for the student price, it’s only $349 which is a great deal. To see all the phones eligible for this offer, visit this LINK.
I found out that I can get $50 for my daughter’s iphone to put towards the price of the new phone, and I can get a $50 Best Buy gift card for trading in and upgrading our phones so we are seriously thinking about using this plan.
Aside from the upfront cost of the phone and activation fee, this would seriously cut down on our cell phone plan.
To see if your student is eligible for this program, you will need the verification form found here.
