Last year, ever since I started trying to eat healthier and lose weight, I have been trying to fix meals that my family will rave over and love. My only problem is that it has been hit and miss. One day I might fix a really awesome, healthy dish, but then the next time around – totally flop. I love cooking for my family, but putting those recipes together is not a strong point of mine yet. You give me sweets or food that is not FRESH and I can whip up anything, but with fresh fruits and veggies — I am still learning.
And then — HelloFresh walked into my life.
HelloFresh is a food delivery service that basically does EVERYTHING for you except cook the food. That is your job. They pick the recipes out that you choose, grocery shop for you, bag it up, and ship it to your door. All you have to do from that point is pull it out of the box and place in the fridge and freezer until you need it.
Ordering from the website is really easy. When I first heard about this service, I was SO intrigued. I had to go check it out. I honestly wasn’t sure if they would deliver to my very small rural town, but I quickly found out — yes they do, so I signed up to give it a try.
The boxes come in two different versions — Classic and Vegetarian. I chose the Classic version because it included meat portions. You can choose between a 2 portion box which includes enough food to make 3 meals per week, or you can choose the family box, which includes enough food to create 3 meals for 4 people. It runs $130.
Once you choose which box you want, you can go back in and customize the recipes that they have chosen for you. For my box I chose recipes like
- Chicken and Quinoa Stew
- Brussell Sprouts and Beef Stirfry
- Pork Tenderloin with Lemony Roasted Potatoes and Zuchinni
I chose each of these recipes because they each had an element that I was just not too fond of in my other recipes I had tried to fix prior to trying out this box.
I loved how everything came prepackaged and labeled so I didn’t have to worry about what food went with what meal. The only item that was not labeled was the meat. For future purposes, I think it would be a good idea to label those as well because some people who don’t cook very often might mistake beef for pork because they did look a lot alike.
Here are my meal photos.
Brussell Sprouts and Beef Stirfry
This meal turned out AMAZING — and you know what I found out? I totally LOVE brussell sprouts cooked the way they did in this meal. Toasted in a pan with a little olive oil and then season with salt and pepper. OH — MY — WORD. It was so good! My daughter and I gobbled this up and could not wait to try the next meal on our list.
Pork Tenderloin with Lemony Roasted Potatoes and Zuchinni
If I thought the first meal was amazing, the second meal was even better!! My taste testing daughter was at a friend’s house for the weekend, so I got to eat this meal all by myself (my guys are just not fans of foods like this). I grabbed a few pieces of the pork, but I must tell you — I ate every single bit of the potatoes and zuchinni.
Yes — in this meal, the veggie I was not a big fan of was zuchinni — until now. I LOVE it and am planning on stocking up on it the next time I go to the grocery store.
Chicken Qunioa Stew
Out of all the meals I made and tried, this one was my absolute favorite. I tried quinoa once before and HATED it, so I wasn’t for sure if I was going to like this or not. It was a HUGE hit and this one makes enough for 4 even though it says 2.
All of these recipes will be posted soon on the blog so be sure to come back to get those!
The thing that makes this delivery and shopping service so special is that they do everything for you, including creating these delicious recipes. They even send you the cards to keep on hand for the next time you want to make these meals.
With HelloFresh, you can save time by not making the weekly grocery store trips, but also the stress that it brings! The one thing that this service has taught me is that YES — I can cook with fresh ingredients, and YES — I can eat healthier meals and still have tons of flavor.
I could see this service being great for newlyweds, or husband and wives whose families have grown up and left the nest. For me, it is just not cost effective to the point that I can justify spending my entire grocery budget on 3 meals for 4 of us, but for someone just starting out who is not very good at cooking or shopping, this is PERFECT for them.
Or if you are someone who hates grocery shopping in general and you eat out quite a bit, then this would be perfect for you too!
