My daughter loves to crochet. During the winter months when there is not a lot to do, you will find the both of us on the sofa making gifts for people and items for ourselves. Her latest creation is a slouch hat. Here is how to make a crochet slouch hat.

How to Make a Slouch Crochet Hat

This super simple slouch hat is perfect for beginners (which is what my daughter is), but it’s also fun for the intermediate crocheter who wants to whip up something quick and cute.

Supplies:

  • Medium/Worsted Weight yarn
  • US H8/5.00mm
  • US G6/4.00mm
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)

Begin with magic loop (click here to watch a how-to video).

DC = Double crochet

STS = stitches

ST = Stitch

SS = Slip Stitch

SC = Single Crochet

  • Row 1: Ch 2 (counts as first DC), 11 DCs in ring; join to top of ch 2 with a SS and pull loop tight (12 sts)
  • Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first DC), DC in same st, *2 DCs in next st* around; join with a SS (24 sts)
  • Row 3: Ch 2 (counts as first DC), DC in next st, 2 DCs in next st, *DC in next 2 sts, 2 DCs in next st* around; join  with a SS (32 sts)
  • Row 4: Ch 2 (counts as first DC), 2 DCs in next st, *DC in next 3 sts, 2 DCs in next st* around; join with a SS (40 sts)
  • Row 5: Ch 2 (counts as first DC), 2 DCs in next st, *DC in next 4 sts, 2 DCs in next st* around; join with a SS (48 sts)
  • Row 6: Ch 2 (counts as first DC), 2 DCs in next st, *DC in next 5 sts, 2 DCs in next st* around; join with a SS (56 sts)
  • Row 7: Ch 2 (counts as first DC), 2 DCs in next st, *DC in next 6 sts, 2 DCs in next st* around; join with a SS (64 sts)
  • Row 8: Ch 2 (counts as first DC), 2 DCs in next st, *DC in next 7 sts, 2 DCs in next st* around; join with a SS (72 sts)
  • Row 9: Ch 2, *DC in each st aroud*, join with a SS;
  • Rows 10-28: Repeat Row 9 for 19 rows; join with a SS
  • Row 29: Switch to smaller hook, ch 1, in back loop only, sc in each st around*; join with a SS
  • Rows 30-34: Repeat Row 29

Fasten off.

We have a ton more things we are making at the moment, so I will be sure to post those as we get done with them.
