Over the past several weeks, I have been doing a TON of shopping from my iphone. My daughter sits right next to me on the couch, so shopping for her on my computer is not an option. I can better hide what I am buying from my phone than I can my laptop. However, I realized that my phone is not a very good place to do shopping from because I really have no protection on there. At least, I didn’t until I downloaded the Norton Mobile Security app.
Mobile devices and retail apps have made it easier than ever to shop and gift on the go. In fact, 58 percent of U.S. consumers used smartphones and 42 percent used tablets to shop during Cyber Monday 2012. I can testify that I am in that percentage because I shop from my phone ALL the time.
We all hear about identity theft and credit card fraud online, but do you know how to protect yourself and your information? I have to admit, I don’t know as much as I should. I have never had my identity stolen, and I hope that I have caught it in enough time that this will never happen to me.
I recently downloaded the Norton Mobile Security app to try on my Android phone (you can get a free 30-day trial here). It was super easy to install and very intuitive. I have been playing around with it and I have to say – it’s one of the coolest apps I have ever used!
Other Neat Features of the Norton Mobile Secrutiy App
When you misplace your phone around the house, you can log in to your Norton account online and make it “Scream.” — even if you have your phone on silent. For me, this is awesome because I am FOREVER losing my phone. I keep my phone on silent a lot because of the fact that my social media sounds like a constant clanging bell and it drives my husband insane, so when I lose my phone — it takes me forever to find it.
Now –with the help of this app, I no longer have to lose it!
If you actually lose your phone rather than just misplacing it, you can do some pretty awesome stuff like:
- Lock it so it can’t be used
- Look at the GPS to see where it was recently
- Remotely take “Sneak Peek” pictures so you can see who might have it
- Wipe the data off it in case you have any sensitive information you want to protect
When you lock your device, Norton will track and report the device’s location every 5 minutes and your phone will take a Sneak Peek photo every 10 minutes!
I also had the opportunity to try Norton Hotspot Privacy (get your free 30-day trial here), which protects data on your Macs, PCs, iPads, iPods and iPhones. It protects your logins, passwords, credit card information and privacy when you use public Wi-Fi hotspots. I use my laptop at many offices when we go to appointments, so that sounded pretty interesting to me.
This app creates a secure, private connection that can’t be seen by eavesdropping software. And it makes you invisible on public networks, so no one can track or monitor your online activities. What a great idea.
Norton Truck Tour
Norton is also embarking on a truck tour to share the importance of mobile security. Here are are the next 2 stops:
- San Antonio, TX at La Cantera Mall: Dec. 19-22, 2014 (Thursday-Friday 11am-7pm; Sat-Sun 10am-8pm)
- CES Conference in Las Vegas, NV: Jan 7-10, 2014
Testing out these two applications has really helped me to see that I don’t take my mobile security as serious as I do my laptop security. If you own a mobile device or will be gifting one this year, I recommend investing in Norton Mobile Security.
