164.2 – The Scale is Moving

Today marks about a week since I decided it was time to really buckle down and get my life in order when it comes to eating and exercising. I have found out a few things about myself this week that is a serious eye opener for me. Some make me sad, and others, I am glad I am finding them out now so that I can make changes to my diet.

Zig Ziglar

I am a mindless eater

Since I have been tracking my weight and what I eat all day using the My Fitness Pal app, I have found out that I snack — a lot. No wonder it’s been hard for me to lose weight. I get bored and my first thought turns to food. I want to eat. ALL. THE. TIME.

Now that I know I am a mindless eater, I can watch those feelings I get. When my body screams at me to grab something to eat, I stop, ask myself — am I really hungry or am I just wanting something to do?

It has made all the difference in the world.

Night time is the worst for me

I have found that at night, that is the worst time for me in the way of eating. I want to do nothing but munch as soon as it gets dark, so I have decided to read, do sit ups and crunches, and crochet during this time to help me get my mind off of wanting to eat. Something else that has helped me is to go and brush my teeth. That small taste of mint, usually takes the taste away.

Keeping snacks available

For those times that I do need a snack, I am keeping things like lowfat string cheese and yogurt available. It keeps me from wanting to eat a ton of chocolate, chips, and popcorn.

I need to walk more

Seriously — I found out by using this Ozeri Pedometer that I do not walk nearly enough.

I love how easy it is to use and definitely lets me know if I need to keep walking or if I have reached my goal. It’s been so cold out, that I have not had a chance to really get out and go walking, so as of right now — I have NOT reached my goal at all. I will be glad when it warms up again.

I am also reading a great book right now. It’s about food triggers and how to eliminate them and change your mind set.

Since I have been reading this, I have seriously been trying to eat better. I have made some amazing meals this week that I cannot wait to share with you all. I have been doing a clean eating diet and I can tell such a huge difference in how I am feeling.

I too just started getting serious last week. I have done fairly well on the eating less and healthier…but the walking has been a challenge since I am still trying to get over a back strain from NOVEMBER…sigh. But I feel more motivated then I have for years. I can’t say I have lost because I have not let myself weigh yet…I have a doctors appt next week and may just wait until then.
Evenings are my most difficult time also…one thing that helps me is I dice up celery and eat it. I am a chip and popcorn kinda gal so having that crunchy snack that gives me the repetitive movement of eating chips and popcorn helps a lot.
Praying for you on this journey.

      Thanks Malissa

I hate celery. I wish I liked it, but I just can’t hack it, so I have been making hummus and using whole wheat pita chips.
