Stephen and I have been married for 20 years now. We joke all the time that it feels like a lot longer than that. I look back and realize that I have been with him for over half of my life. In fact, he was my high school sweetheart. We started dating when I was in the 10th grade. Here are a few reasons why I love my husband.

Why I Love My Husband

We have not always had the best relationship. In fact, about 12 years ago, I almost divorced my husband, but God stepped in and did a miraculous work in our lives and in our marriage. You can read that story here.

10 Reasons I Love My Husband

1. He follows God with all of his heart.

Knowing that my hubby loves God first and foremost makes me love him all the more. I don’t have to worry about him cheating on me, being an angry or abusive man, or anything of that nature, because he loves the Lord and puts Him first in his life. Because of this, he can love me and our kids the way we need to be loved.

2. He tries to surprise me with fun things to do

Not too long ago, my sweetie pie took me out on a surprise date to see Third Day and we had a blast! He bought me cotton candy, took me to dinner, and then to an amazing concert where we had almost front row seats.

3. He is a great father to our children

One thing I can say about my man is that he takes the time to spend time with our kids. He is not afraid to admit he is wrong, and if he screws up with them — he goes right to them an apologizes. He does his best to teach them how to live fulfilling lives for God.

4. He tells me he loves me at least 5 times a day

I love the fact that not a day has gone by where he has not told me at least 5 times that he loves me. There is not a doubt in my mind that he loves me.

5. He encourages me to chase my dreams of writing

For so long, I have wanted to write a book on marriage and just this past year, I have felt like I am supposed to start. Most hubby’s would have fretted over the fact that their wife wanted to quit her stable income job to start writing, but not mine. He has encouraged me every step of the way and has applauded every single time I make a step toward that goal.

6. We have had a friendship that has tested the hands of time

While we are husband and wife, we were friends before we were anything else, and I think that has a lot to do with why we have made it. You have to actually LIKE the person you are married to and I do — I like him, but I love him even more!

7. He gives me back rubs when I am hurting

I have major back issues where the muscles tighten all the time. When he sees me wincing from tight muscles, he will give me a back rub to help loosen those tight things up.

8. He washes my dishes and cleans my house when I am overwhelmed

He has pretty much always been to the point that he can clean better than me, but when I am overwhelmed with writing deadlines, he steps right in there and will wash the dishes or clean the house — even if he has a full day ahead of him.

9. He works hard for our family

My hubby loves to do construction. I supported him many years ago when he wanted to go into business for himself. He has built a name and a business with God’s help and he works hard for our family. I am so proud that he wants us to live a happy and fulfilling life.

10. I love him just because he is himself

He doesn’t have to be an Adam Levine — world’s sexiest man. What matters to me is that he loves me, loves our kids, and is not afraid to just be himself. That to me makes me love him more than anything else in the world.

What about you? What do you love about your husband?

Happy Wives CLubMy dear friend, Fawn Weaver, the found of HWC is releasing her first book Happy Wives Club is Fawn’s journey across the world to meet new friends and discover what makes their marriages great. Join her on this exciting, exotic trip across six continents and through more than eighteen cities.

I read this book and walked away with an overwhelming sense of admiration and love for my own marriage. The stories shared made me realize that every relationship has their rough patches, but it’s how you handle them and get back up that really counts. It really gets to the root of why marriage matters and how important it is to cultivate your love so that it can last a lifetime. This is definitely a book that I will keep and have purchased many copies to give as gifts.
