I was provided complimentary product through Home & School Mosiacs in exchange for my honest review. All opiniobs are 100% my own.
One thing that my kids have always hated about homeschooling is writing. For me, I love to write so I was hoping that they would garner the same interest in writing that I have. Unfortunately that has never been so. Until now.
Kayla was introduced to Writing with Sharon – Writing Fiction in High School, and has discovered that she loves to write short stories that allow her to escape into another world for just a little while.
I love how easy this curriculum is laid out. Not only does it have easy lessons, but it also offers ways to gain ideas from things like movies, plays, and more.
Writing Fiction [In High School]: Bringing Your Stories to Life will help students…
|• Build scenes||• Get published|
|• Ramp up the conflict||• Hook their readers|
|• Select a point of view||• Write engaging dialogue|
|• Create empathetic protagonists||• Describe settings and characters|
|• Critique themselves and other writers||• And much, much more!|
I love that it is also independent enough that she does not need me to stand over her and guide her through the lessons.
Each lesson is broken down into an easily manageable portion. By the time you finish this curriculum, your child will be well on their way to finishing a novel or a short story of some kind.
For this curriculum you will get –
From writing their own life story as a fiction novel (which my daughter plans to do), to watching The Princess Bride (my favorite movie of all time)! Sharon uses these stories that many students are already familiar with to teach them story structure and theme. By analyzing movies and other materials that they already enjoy, students are more open to the critique process as they work through their own stories.
Does your child like to write? If so, then this curriculum would make a great addition to your upcoming homeschool year. And ya know what? This momma might even take the course herself since I am wanting to delve into fiction writing as well.
The student book is $25 and the teacher book is around $10. Want to see if this curriculum is right for you? Download a free sample here.
