This month for the Improv Cooking Challenge, we were given the challenge of creating a dish that deals with hearts and flours. Well, I knew exactly what I was going to fix and deliver to our wonderful homeschool Valentine party earlier this month — cute little heart shaped pizzas!
It became a really fun activity for the kids because we let them make their own pizzas — with the exception of the dough. I had to make it ahead of time so I could cut them out into heart shapes.
Here is how you can make your own heart shaped pizzas.
First you will need your own homemade pizza dough recipe. Mine is very simple and easy to use. Once you roll it out, then use about a 3 or 4 inch heart cookie cutter and cut out your heart shaped pizza doughs. Bake them for just about 5 minutes on 400 degrees.
Once you do that, pull them out and let them rest and cool and then you can transport them to anywhere!
Top them with your favorite pizza toppings such as homemade pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and all your favorite veggies. It will definitely turn out to be a favorite and fun meal to remember!

You can also use this recipe to make shamrocks for Saint Patrick’s Day, bunnies for Easter, and more! The possibilities are endless.
Check out what the other bloggers are making
This month, I had the best blog ever to pull a recipe from. At Wholesome RD, I basically just went into a food coma looking at all the fabulous recipes that Erin has made since she started her blog is amazing.
I really love the fact that what she shares is pretty healthy. That is why this month, I decided I wanted to try something new and totally different for my palette, so I made her fabulous Shaved Asparagus Pizza. Two words describe this pizza: YUM- MY.
- Olive oil, for brushing
- 8 oz. asparagus spears
- 4 oz. fresh mozzarella, thinly sliced
- 3 oz. spreadable garlic herb cheese
- Kosher salt
- freshly ground pepper
- Prepared pizza dough
- Preheat the oven and a pizza stone at 500˚ F for at least 30 minutes. Roll out the pizza dough into a 12-14 inch round. Lightly brush the surface of the dough with olive oil.
- Cut the tough woody stems off the ends of the asparagus spears. Use a vegetable peeler to shave the spears into ribbons. Be sure to shave all your spears because it will cook down in the oven.
- Place the sliced mozzarella over the pizza dough in an even layer.
- Pile the asparagus shavings over the top of the mozzarella.
- Dot the surface of the pizza with the garlic herb cheese. Season with kosher salt and pepper.
- Transfer the pizza to the preheated pizza stone and bake until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the crust is lightly browned, about 12 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
This month I was given a new blog to check out in hopes I could find a new recipe to cook. The problem wasn’t finding just ONE recipe, the problem was deciding to figure out which recipe to cook.
I was given the website of Debbi Does Dinner. . .Healthy and Low Calorie. There is not one recipe on her site that does not have me drooling. I sat for hours pouring over her delicious and mouthwatering recipes. It took me forever to settle on one. When I did, I knew it was a winner
I was able to make Debbi’s BBQ Chicken Pizza — and instead of buying a Pilsbury crust, I used my homemade Pizza crust recipe. I also switched out the cheese on my pizza as I love, love, love fresh mozarella for homemade pizza
BBQ Chicken pizza is one of my favorite types of pizza. You can change up the flavor of your sauce simply by changing your bbq sauce –go tangy, go sweet, go full of heat, honey flavored–the possibilities are endless!
You will never think of pizza the same ever again!

This has to be my daughter’s absolute favorite and easiest pizza in the whole world! It’s name comes from the flour tortilla it is based on–hence the name “Flat Pizza”. We have been making this for them ever since she was about 5 years old.
My picture shows pepperonis on it, but many times we leave those off and just make cheese pizzas which are SO easy and SO delicious!
Hope you enjoy!
Flat Pizza
Ingredients
1 flour tortilla
1 small jar of pizza sauce (or make a homemade pizza sauce)
pepperonis
shredded cheese
Directions
On a tortilla surface, spread your pizza sauce. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Put a few pepperonis on the top of the cheese. Place under your broiler in the oven until the cheese melts and the edges get crispy!
Enjoy!

Awhile back we went out to eat as a family to Mr. Gatti’s (the only pizza shop we will frequent that often). They make this pizza there that I have never seen anyone else make. So being who I am, I set out to recreate my own. . .
Cheeseburger Pizza
This pizza has a mustard and mayo base instead of the normal red pizza sauce. That is what makes it taste just like a cheeseburger! Then you add hamburger meat, mozzarella cheese, dill pickles, tomatoes, and onions. Throw it in the oven and you have yourself a cheeseburger pizza!
But what if I don’t like mustard?
You can do like my daughter and substitute ketchup for the mustard!
This pizza is really good. . . I am not playing with you! When I first saw this pizza on the buffet at Mr. Gatti’s, I was like–NO WAY! That looks gross. But the lady insisted I try it. One piece and I was hooked!
Here is the recipe! Hope you enjoy.
Cheeseburger Pizza
Ingredients
1 pizza crust (store bought or homemade)
3 tablespoons of mustard or ketchup
3 tablespoons of mayonnaise
1 bag of shredded mozarella cheese
1/4 pound of hamburger meat, cooked and drained
1/4 of an onion sliced thin
6 pickles, chopped
1 tomato, diced
Directions
- Mix together the mustard and mayonnaise and put on the pizza crust.
- Sprinkle cheese on top of that.
- Sprinkle hamburger meat, onion, pickles, and tomato on top of that.
- Bake in a 425 oven for 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and brown.

Growing up in my hometown we had this restaurant that served a fabulous pizza-like concoction. My first taste of a stromboli was when I was seven years old and stayed the night at my sister’s house. I have been wanting to experiment and try to put together my own version of what I remember and here is what I came up with:

With the rising costs of food and gas here lately, Kayla and I have been looking for ways to make things “homemade” to save on costly prepackaged foods. Recently a friend of mine directed me to this website, Hillbilly Housewife.
I started looking at all the really helpful frugal information on this website and was pleased to find this is exactly what I was looking for. They have this really great recipe for homemade pizza on there! Kayla and I decided to make a “Meat Lover’s” pizza for Stephen. It was so easy to make and it tasted delicious!
Kayla and I were tickled to death that it came out looking like a pizza you would actually order in a restaurant. Anyway, I thought I would share the recipe with you! Hope you all enjoy!

Self Rising Pizza Crust
2-1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Dry Active Yeast
3/4 Cup Water
1/4 Cup oil
In bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, and yeast. Stir it up to distribute the salt and yeast evenly. Add the water and oil. You may need to add a teaspoon or more of water if the day is dry. Mix the dough until it forms a ball in the middle of the bowl. It should be a little stiffer than biscuit dough. Knead dough about 10 to 12 times and then form in a ball. Almost Instant Pizza Sauce
8 oz can tomato sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp Italian Seasoning
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp onion powder
1 tbsp oil for flavoring
In a large bowl, combine the tomato sauce, Italian Seasoning, garlic powder, sugar, onion powder, and oil. Mix it well and spread on the pizza crust.
Toppings
I microwaved some bacon and crumbled it up on our pizza. We also used pepperoni, and browned some sausage and hamburger. We sprinkled this on top of the pizza sauce and then topped our pizza with cheese!
Bake at 425 degrees for about 25 minutes. This is a great way to make homemade pizzas!
